The Power Of Negative Ions

In this day and age, we do our best to find light in the darkness and embrace it as much as we can. For some people, that light can be family, friends, or pets, and for others, exercise, meditation, or a daily walk. Happiness and positivity can be fleeting things, but we are always looking for ways to make it last and cultivate more of it in our daily routines.

In this blog, we hope to bring attention to the power of negative ions. Negative ions have incredibly positive impacts on our bodies and minds. They have the power to uplift our mood, cleans the air around us, and even neutralize toxins within us. Since these are three separate spaces that require three separate approaches to reaching, we would like to explain a little more about how to apply and reap the benefits of this working of science.

Negative Ions Outside & Around Us

  • The Sun
  • Burning Sage
  • Burning Palo Santo
  • Rain
  • Waterfalls
  • Thunder

The Sun

Many things create and give off negative ions. Spending time outdoors in most weather conditions proves to have some benefit to uplifting our spirits. Certain UV Rays in the sun give off negative ions as well. Healthy exposure to the sun can supply our bodies with vitamin D3, as well as shower us in negative ions, creating increased potential for an improved mood.

Water

The act of water colliding with itself either in the rain or through a waterfall creates and gives off positive ions. If you've ever allowed yourself to enjoy a jog in the rain, a walk along the seashore, or stood safely beside a waterfall, you will know that the feeling is wonderful and refreshing! It turns out there is more at play affecting your mood than just the beautiful scenery!

Living Spaces & Aromatic Herbs

In addition to keeping your living space clean and clutter-free, there is more you can do to increase the cleanliness and good vibes. It turns out that the ancient practice of burning herbs like sage and palo santo can kill up to 94% of the bacteria in the air- amazing, right?! In addition to that, the burning of these herbs also releases negative ions which, you guessed it, have the potential to uplift your mood.

Plants

It seems young people are becoming increasingly more interested and excited by household plants- this is a great thing! Not only do plants clean the air through the process of turning carbon dioxide (what we exhale) into oxygen (what we inhale), the simple act of them growing creates and gives off negative ions. All the more reason to add to your plant collection and spend more time in the garden and woods!

Negative Ions Inside - Food, water & detoxing

Alkaline foods and water are incredibly powerful things to consume. These foods and drinks are naturally higher in negative ions (among many other healthful things) which neutralize positive ions in the body. This can be confusing for a lot of people since the word "positive" has a... positive association, but in the case of food and water, negative ions are wonderful! Toxins are positively charged in nature and when met with negative ions, are rendered powerless.

A shortlist of some alkaline foods:

  • Swiss Chard, Dandelion greens
  • Spinach, Kale
  • Almonds
  • Avocado
  • Cucumber
  • Beets
  • Figs and Apricots
  • + Many More

The more we learn about nature and plants, the more we realize that spending time outdoors is a necessity to life. During these times of stress, we encourage you to try to make a habit of weekly or daily trips in nature. We firmly believe this simple act will have profound impacts on your general sense of wellbeing that will in turn positively impact every aspect of your life.
